Do you ever get that urge to get out and explore nature without having to go too far from home? Well, you’re in luck. Dothan has a very special place that might be just what you’re looking for. Have a look at the Westgate Park Trail.

Opportunities for All Levels

The trail is 3.2 miles in length and has only about 269 feet of elevation or hills, making it mild for those who want to leave the climbing gear at home. The trail is designed for hiking, road biking and walking and it’s even pet friendly. You can bring the dog as long as he or she stays on leash.

Natural Beauty

About half the trail meanders through the woods and the other half is open. The surface is clay and there are plentiful wild flowers along the way, depending on the season. If you like to keep track of things, there are mile markers along the way and the distance is just a hair longer than a standard 5K, making it an ideal place to get ready for your next race.

More Than Just A Trail

While the trail might get you in, the rest of the park features everything from an indoor pool to outdoor playing fields. Whether you like soccer, volleyball or prefer to make use of the gym, sauna, fitness room or racquetball courts, the park has you covered. The park is located at 501 Recreation Road in Dothan and you can get more information by phone at (334) 615-3760.

Alabama has a very unique feature that golfers everywhere have come to appreciate and that is the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The 11 sites, 26 courses and 468 holes, including Dothan’s own Highland Oaks, make up a public system second to none. And not only are the courses public, they benefit the public and the Retirement System of Alabama, which started the project back in the 1980s.

Designed By the Best

When the system was being envisioned, the folks in charge wanted to create a system that was top notch from the start, so they wanted the best designer they could find. Enter Robert Trent Jones, Sr. who designed more than 500 courses all over the world. After he came on board, work geared up and eight sites with 18 courses were started all at once.

Continued Growth

After the first eight sites were finished, things were still not done. The decision was made to create two more sites and when they were completed in 2005, there were a total of ten sites. The eleventh and final site was added some years later after Point Clear’s Lakewood Golf Club was updated and added.

Special Features

Several things set the trail apart from other public courses and systems. First, the courses were all designed in harmony with the surrounding land. In addition, the holes all have a variety of tees that are designed to work with differing abilities. And finally, the courses were all designed to be difficult, as it was believed that easy courses would not be successful over the long haul.

New cars come with options that you never even thought of as possible just a few years ago. Heck, your average new Toyota now sports more wiring, computers, sensors and gizmos than airplanes used to have. But what do most people really pick? Well, after a little research, here’s what seems to top most people’s wish lists.

Entertainment

You could really go to town here. Since we all seems to carry a lot of our content with us, an MP3 interface and charging ports are big hits. For folks with kids, an in-car DVD system is just the ticket to keep the little ones entertained. For adults there is satellite radio, CD players and high powered amps and upgraded speakers keep things rocking.

Communications

Having a great built-in navigation system is a big deal for many people, especially those who travel by car a lot. Having the Bluetooth system for interfacing with a smart phone is also huge in that it improves both driver safety and ease of use, keeping both hands on the wheel, as they should be.

Driving Aids

This is where the sci-fi really starts to come into play. Parking assist systems now help folks fit into tight spaces or actually do the job automatically. Intelligent cruise control uses radar technology to not just monitor speed but the actual distance between your car and the one ahead of it. And even the humble headlight has been updated with Xenon bulbs, LEDs and better halogens. Just imagine what will be available in another few years.

Pretty much everyone loves good BBQ, but who has the best is always a subject for friendly debate. Whether you are a barbeque expert or on the hunt for a good meal, here’s a good list of the best choices (according to TripAdvisor). You can do the sampling and make your own decision.

Fatback’s, 3850 West Main Street, Suite 801, Dothan.

Start with the fresh pork skins and then hit the classics. Don’t forget to try a burger either or some fried pickles. You pretty much can’t go wrong from 11 am till they close at 9 pm, according to the reviewers.

Full Moon BBQ, 3826 Montgomery Highway, Dothan.

The big portions, friendly staff and lots of choices were all mentioned by folks who reviewed Full Moon. Having warm sauce was a hit as well as quick service and some great steak fries.

The BBQ Shack, 2122 S. Brannon Stand Road, Dothan.

This place features a choice of nine different sauces at the table as well as items like boiled peanuts and big slabs of ribs. They’re open from 10 am till 8 pm, so get on over and see what you think.

Dobbs BBQ, 2636 South Oates Street, Dothan.

Folks who ate here mentioned good sweet tea, great fries, excellent BBQ and quick service. Prices were said to be good and some of the sides got great marks too. After all, you can’t have a great BBQ meal without some good slaw, fries and a few other things to go along, now can you?

Toyota introduced the very sporty and sleek FR-S in 2013 and folks were more than a little impressed. The rear wheel drive car sold well and got excellent reviews but it remained a quiet success, with smaller numbers and a stealthy reputation. It was updated slightly in 2014 and 2015 but the new model for 2016 has made a couple of changes that will make buyers very happy.

Interior Perks

One of the few complaints buyers had, was a less than exciting all black interior. The 2016 Scion FR-S model will have silver colored trim on everything from the dash to the center console, doors and steering wheel. Even spiffier, is the new, standard 7-inch touch-screen display that will control a wide variety of functions. It will be like have a small tablet permanently mounted to your dash.

The Outside Gets Updated Too

Big news for those into brighter colors is the introduction of two new exterior choices. For the classic sporty look, Ablaze Red will put you up there with the Italian classics. For those who prefer a calmer tone, they can pick the new Oceanic Blue. Either one compliments the car’s sleek lines.

Still A Bargain

All these updates come at a price, but far less than you’d think. The price for the base model with the above goodies (and even a backup camera) is $26,075, only $405 more than the 2015 price. That car comes with a 6-speed stick and if you prefer that F-1 feel, you can have a six-speed paddle shifted automatic for only $1100 more

Buying a pre-owned car is easier today than ever before. One of the main reasons is the certification process that a Toyota goes through ensures that only the highest quality vehicles get the certified label. This means no worries for the new owner.

We Start With Only The Best

A candidate for certification can be anywhere from current to six model years old, but no older. It must have less than 85,000 miles and it must have a clean CARFAX report. Finally, the car must go through, and pass, a 160-point inspection process. Can you pass a 160-point inspection?

So What Does Certified Mean To Me?

Once a pre-owned car is certified, it means that you have peace of mind. You get a full year of roadside assistance from more than 1400 Toyota dealers in North America. You can rely on a limited comprehensive warranty for 12 month or 12,000 mile and a limited powertrain warranty for 7-year or 100,000 mile. Taken together, this is very close to the warranty of a new car.

A Certified Car Deal Is Just As Simple As New

One thing that people forget is the sheer complexity of buying a pre-owned vehicle either from a pre-owned dealer or an individual. You need to deal with insurance, financing and DMV in all cases. When you buy certified, it’s all handled the same as a new car transaction, including trade-ins, competitive financing rates, DMV paperwork and of course, a free CARFAX report on all certified vehicles. The only thing better than Certified, is new.

3D 2016The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is designed for both work and play with a double cab so you can transport the whole family. The Tacoma has a 3.5 liter, six cylinder engine and an automatic transmission with the option to use manual mode and floor shifter.

2016 Tacoma Interior Features and Comfort

The front bucket seats offer superior support and a manual adjuster that makes it possible to position the seat perfectly for your needs. The rear seats can be split and folded to make additional interior cargo space if you have more “stuff” than passengers to transport. All seats are a premium cloth upholstery.

For convenience and entertainment, the Tacoma is equipped with a trip computer, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel trimmed in leather, card key power locks, one-touch front windows, and climate control. There is a touchscreen display to navigate your AM/FM, CD, digital, and satellite radio systems and there are six speakers.

outdoor tables with served plate and wine glassesThe Dothan Area Botanical Gardens make for a beautiful backdrop for your wedding. The botanical gardens are located just four miles north of Dothan off Highway 431. You won’t find a prettier venue to hold your special day in the Wiregrass, and your photos will be a breathtaking reminder of your day.

The Wedding Garden

The Wedding Garden is surrounded by flowering trees and offers a formal garden design perfect for weddings. If you get married here in the summer, you’ll enjoy crepe myrtle and wisteria accents. Spring weddings in this garden have flowering dogwood trees and azaleas.

Indoor Reception

As of 2011, the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens became the ideal setting for garden weddings with the addition of Ricketts Hall. The reception space offers a full kitchen, changing rooms, and a large area for dinner and dancing.

Padlocks of Love

A growing trend for lovers to prove that their love is the true thing is through “Padlocks of Love”. These padlocks symbolize eternal love, and are locked on fences, gates, and bridges. You and your partner engrave or print your names or initials on the locks, lock them around something permanent, and then throw away the key to lock your love in place eternally. Only a few Padlocks of Love sites appear in the United States, and the Botanical Gardens is one of them. The gardens have a Lock Gate inside the Gardens, near the gazebo. You can lock your padlock free of charge. Bring your camera!
