There is a lot of stiff competition in the minivan segment. Every minivan manufacturer is loaded vans to the gills with family-friendly features, technology, and a horde of safety features, but the Toyota Sienna proved there is only one that exceeds safety standards. Earning TSP+ recognition is no easy task. The minivan was required to adhere to strict safety standards and excel in rigorous crashworthiness tests. To earn the exclusive title, the 2015 Toyota Sienna received ‘good’ ratings in four crashworthiness evaluations and an ‘advanced’ rating for its front-crash-prevention system. The most important test was the small overlap test, in which the Sienna earned an ‘acceptable’ rating. Performance in the test was so poor among the competing minivans that the IIHS released a statement stating, “3 minivans have dire test results.”
