Of course, what favorite-donut-shop list would be complete without mentioning Dunkin’ Donuts? Areas throughout the country have furry friends in need of loving homes. Animal shelters and other adoption centers are a great place to find your next fluffy family member. Here are two options near Dothan, Alabama, for pet adoption.

Wiregrass Humane Society

At 255 Jerry Drive, just outside of downtown Dothan, is Wiregrass Humane Society. Stop in between noon and 4:30 p.m. any day of the week to see who they have available for adoption.

If you’re interested in taking one of their animals home, visit the facility and one of the staff members will be happy to let you meet your new friend in person. You’ll need to fill out an application to be reviewed by the staff before you can take a pet home. Adoption fees range from $95 to $150 depending on the type of animal. Any pets adopted from Wiregrass are sure to be spayed or neutered and current on all vaccinations.

Save Our Strays Animal Shelter

About 40 minutes west of Dothan, in Enterprise, Alabama, you’ll find Save Our Strays or SOS Animal Shelter. Head in to see their selection Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. Adoption fees are anywhere from $100 to $160 based on the type and age of the pet. Their fees cover vaccines and spaying or neutering. All dogs come with a microchip for tracking when they’re adopted, and cats can get one for just $10.

A classic Halloween choice, the skeleton is both very easy to make and loved by everyone. Just dress your kid in black and get white and black face paints to create the skeleton look. Done.

3. An Old Lady or Gentleman

Dothan, Alabama, has its fair share of entertainment right at home. Find fun at any of these local theme parks.

AdventureLand

The AdventureLand amusement park is conveniently located on Main Street and has something for everyone. There are go-karts, bumper boats, batting cages, a minigolf course, and a gaming arcade. Refuel at the on-site snack bar, which has hot dogs, pizza, nachos, and Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. The AdventureLand Park is also the only spot in all of Dothan where you can get Dippin’ Dots.

Water World

Alabama summers can get hot. Escape the heat at the thrilling Water World park. Spend the day floating in the riptide wave pool or find adrenaline on one of the large water slides. The Great White is a four-story high tower that takes you on twisting slides. There is also a children’s play area that is perfect for younger children and an on-site surf-side grille.

Fun Zone Skate Center

The Fun Zone Skate Center is a fantastic indoor option for rainy or humid days. In addition to skating, the center has laser tag, bumper cars, a 35-foot rock wall, and a gyro chair. Be sure to try the jump shot challenge. This activity combines traditional basketball with trampolines for an exciting new experience. On-site refreshments are also available. Pizza zone is a full-service restaurant that sells hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and pizza.
