If you’re in the Dothan, Alabama, area, there are plenty of interesting and unique cultural attractions to check out. Keep reading to find out where you should stop by when in this town.

Mural City

Dothan is known for its murals, many of which pay homage to the town’s rich history. There are stunning murals found on historic buildings in the downtown area, and you can take a self-guided walking tour to see these works of art. Pieces highlight the steamboat era, the peanut industry, and Chief Eufaula. You can find these pieces on North Foster Street, East Main Street, and South Saint Andrews Street.

Peanuts Around Town

Many of the area’s restaurants and shops found in the downtown sector participate in Peanuts Around Town. Since Dothan is known for its peanut industry and is the self-appointed “Peanut Capital of the World,” the Alabama Peanut Producers Association wanted to draw attention and began a project involving various artists designing 4-foot-tall peanuts to place all around the town. The designs include characters from Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip.

World’s Smallest City Block

Named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s smallest city block, this triangular patch of land is at the intersection of Troy, Museum, and North Appletree streets. If you blink, you might miss this nondescript area, which is only marked by a yield sign, stop sign, and street marker.

Although Dothan is known for its peanut industry, which you can experience through Peanuts Around Town, you can check out murals along some of the town’s buildings and the world’s smallest city block.
