Dothan might not be the cultural capital of Alabama, but it does have a decent population size and plenty of interesting places to eat both in the city limits and a short drive away. So if you’re hankering for a taste that the big fast food joints can’t deliver, then try one of these restaurants on for size and find out what makes them worth tracking down.
Thai House
Just south of where Murphy Mill Road crosses Montgomery Highway, Thai House combines Asian cuisine with some truly spicy dishes and tropical ingredients. Their curry comes in several colors and heat levels, but you can count on finding things like coconut milk and pineapple, and of course their pad Thai is unbeatably delicious.
Full Moon Bar-B-Que
Full Moon Bar-B-Que is an Alabama chain with a Dothan location just a short way down the road from Thai House. Dothan is full of barbecue joints, but Full Moon can make a good argument for being the best of the bunch. They cook all their meats Southern-style, letting them slowly reach that perfect temperature over a low hickory-wood fire. And along with barbecue classics like pork, chicken, turkey, and beef brisket, Full Moon also serves smoked pork links, massive baked potatoes, and whole racks of spare and baby-back ribs.
Whether you’re looking for that classic Southern flavor or something that comes from farther abroad, Dothan-area restaurants will serve what you’re looking for. With places like Thai House and Full Moon, you won’t have to eat franchise fast food unless you really want to.
