There are many ways that a particular region can become popularized and forever associated with something. In some cases, the likes of literature andToyota radio Dothan AL movies bring long-lasting attention to a certain city or state. In the case of the state of Alabama, popular music has been one of the most consistent sources for name dropping the Southern state in a celebratory manner.

Here are a few instances of Alabama serving as the muse in the musical world:

 ‘Alabama’

It doesn’t get much more country than naming your band Alabama. Formed back in 1969 in the city of Fort Payne in their namesake state, Alabama has since achieved legendary status. The band is best known for hits like “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas” and “Angels Among Us.”

‘The Alabama Shakes’

A more modern version of including ‘Alabama’ in a musical moniker is the popular rock band, The Alabama Shakes. The group, which hails from Athens, Alabama, first formed in 2009. It wasn’t until their single “Hold On” in 2012 though that the band would see major attention on a national level.

“Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Few songs are as instantly recognizable as the opening guitar riff of “Sweet Home Alabama.” Lynyrd Skynyrd paid the ultimate homage to their home state when they released this now classic hit in 1974. Decades later, the song still spreads the praise for Alabama on radio airwaves every day.
