The infamous car horn — it's how we communicate from car to car, for better or worse. It can be used as a shield or as a weapon, however, the car horn exists to help others make the road a safer place. So, when is it really okay to honk your horn? Do There are plenty of reasons to use your car horn, and each one is to improve safety on the streets. If you see someone drifting into your lane, go ahead and honk. Perhaps they're unaware they're doing it and your honk will set them on the right track. If you see a pedestrian or driver about to get into a dangerous situation, honk. If you're approaching a tight curve, honk to let possible oncoming drivers know you're there. Horns are supposed to be tools to make people more aware of the world around them. Used properly, horns improve our driving experiences. Don't Don't honk your horn because you're angry. It never helps with traffic jams. Other drivers won't know your point of view just because you honked. Don't honk to make someone drive faster — there could be a great reason they're driving at that speed. Honking at someone because they made a mistake won't reverse that mistake, but it may cause them to make another one. Remember that we share the roads with our neighbors. Dothan was the center of Alabama's industry and commerce in the 1800s, and because of its rich history, the area is home to several historic landmarks and sites. Here are some of the most important locations worth visiting. Watson Cabin Watson Cabin is one of six historic sites that are positioned within Landmark Park. Built in the 1860s, it originally sat along the Choctawhatchee River, and it was once the home of Dale County Probate Judge Frank O. Deese. It is a single-room cabin made from hewn logs, complete with three doors and two boarded windows. Dothan Opera House The Dothan Opera House is a 1915 building that is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The house is still used today for dance recitals, business meetings, community theater performances, and concerts. The Dothan Opera House seats 590 people and features a historic elevator and some of the best acoustics around. In fact, the Atlanta Symphony utilized the house when recording their albums. Headland Presbyterian Church The Presbyterian Church sits in Landmark Park. It's one of the few original structures that was built in the incorporated town of Wiregrass. The architecture is based on Carpenter Gothic, a popular style from the early 1800s. It features milled lumber and machined nails. Landmark Park acquired the Headland Presbyterian Church in 1981 and had it restored. These are just a few important historic sites worth visiting in the Dothan area. Not only is Dothan a great area for country music lovers, but it's also home to one of the best country entertainment venues in the country. In addition to Cowboys, there are also a few other places where you can go to hear country music. Cowboys Cowboys has been a favorite venue for country music since 1980. It's the largest honky-tonk east of the Mississippi, and in addition to the music, there are five pool tables, four bars, a snack bar, and a huge dance floor with room for 300 people. With its impressive lineup of artists, Cowboys is the place for live music in Dothan. This March, you can catch Mustang Sally, Sabin Sharpe, and Shelby Lee Lowe. The Plant The Plant in downtown Dothan welcomes all types of music artists including country music performers. Once a Coca-Cola factory, The Plant is now a music venue that sports the latest technology. Cody Johnson will perform on March 23 with special guest Frank Foster, and Drake White, an Alabama native, will perform with Jordan Brooker on April 5. You can also see bands such as Black Stone Cherry and Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown for a Southern rock experience in May.
