3 Insane Roadside Attractions in Alabama

If you should ever find yourself on the open road in the great state of Alabama, you owe it to yourself to check out some of the most interesting and unusual attractions on offer in America. Here are a few suggestions, though Alabama has plenty more points of interest for those who love the odd and entertaining. 1. Art of Elberta Alabama is home to the big, weird, and wonderful work of fiberglass master Mark Cline. His trademark pieces are his dinosaurs: massive interpretations of some of the biggest beasts to ever live on Earth. Cline didn't stop there, though. In the past decade, he has added a life-size model of Stonehenge to the landscape around Elberta, Alabama. He also expanded his work to the water, bringing the massive "Lady in the Lake" sculpture to the world in 2012. 2. World's Smallest City Block While so many roadside attractions boast "The World's Biggest" something or other, humble Dothan, Alabama aims lower and succeeds spectacularly. The world's smallest city block, as confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records, is a gravel triangle in the town. It's so small and unassuming it's easy to miss, but worth a detour. 3. Ave Maria Grotto Brother Joseph Zoettl had a love of great, ancient cities. So, he crafted this amazing collection of miniature buildings from some of the most iconic locales in antiquity, planting it in Cullman, Alabama. Alabama's roadside attractions are a great reason to stop and stretch your legs. They're strange but whimsical, not to mention fun on the cheap. Image provided by Flickr

Benefits of Owning a Crossover SUV

If you look around the streets while you’re traveling, you can’t help but notice how crossover SUVs are dominating the roads. When you have a family to haul around or lots of cargo, you need something larger than a car, but you don’t want to break the bank each time you head to the pump. Fuel efficiency is just one reason why crossovers have become more popular than full-sized body-on-frame SUVs. Below we discuss the many benefits of owning a crossover SUV. Better Safety Than Cars Safety is always a concern when you buy a vehicle, especially when you have family. Generally speaking, SUVs are safer than cars when you get into a collision, no matter what kind of standard safety equipment is aboard. The reason that passengers will be safer is because of the bigger size than small cars, which makes SUVs better able to withstand an impact. SUVs and Crossovers Tow Better Than a Car There are many people out there that have hobbies involving large items, like boats, fishing, motorcycles, ATVs, fishing and more.  These pastimes often require towing. While it is possible to add a towing kit to a car, it will not be nearly as efficient as with an SUV. Many crossovers even come equipped with towing capability and trailer sway control. Go Off-Road in a Crossover If you like adventure, it is not recommended that you go off-road in a car. SUVs are better at off-roading because of their higher ground clearance and better transmissions and differentials that are made to perform in off-road situations. Many SUVs and crossovers come with skid plates and other forms of underbody protection, as well as features like low-range gearing and hill descent control.   Stop in to our dealership if you’re interested in a Toyota crossover SUV!

Dothan's Westgate Park Trail: A Nice Place for A Walk

Do you ever get that urge to get out and explore nature without having to go too far from home? Well, you’re in luck. Dothan has a very special place that might be just what you’re looking for. Have a look at the Westgate Park Trail. Opportunities for All Levels The trail is 3.2 miles in length and has only about 269 feet of elevation or hills, making it mild for those who want to leave the climbing gear at home. The trail is designed for hiking, road biking and walking and it’s even pet friendly. You can bring the dog as long as he or she stays on leash. Natural Beauty About half the trail meanders through the woods and the other half is open. The surface is clay and there are plentiful wild flowers along the way, depending on the season. If you like to keep track of things, there are mile markers along the way and the distance is just a hair longer than a standard 5K, making it an ideal place to get ready for your next race. More Than Just A Trail While the trail might get you in, the rest of the park features everything from an indoor pool to outdoor playing fields. Whether you like soccer, volleyball or prefer to make use of the gym, sauna, fitness room or racquetball courts, the park has you covered. The park is located at 501 Recreation Road in Dothan and you can get more information by phone at (334) 615-3760.

Dothan Area Golf For All Ages And Abilities

Alabama has a very unique feature that golfers everywhere have come to appreciate and that is the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The 11 sites, 26 courses and 468 holes, including Dothan’s own Highland Oaks, make up a public system second to none. And not only are the courses public, they benefit the public and the Retirement System of Alabama, which started the project back in the 1980s. Designed By the Best When the system was being envisioned, the folks in charge wanted to create a system that was top notch from the start, so they wanted the best designer they could find. Enter Robert Trent Jones, Sr. who designed more than 500 courses all over the world. After he came on board, work geared up and eight sites with 18 courses were started all at once. Continued Growth After the first eight sites were finished, things were still not done. The decision was made to create two more sites and when they were completed in 2005, there were a total of ten sites. The eleventh and final site was added some years later after Point Clear’s Lakewood Golf Club was updated and added. Special Features Several things set the trail apart from other public courses and systems. First, the courses were all designed in harmony with the surrounding land. In addition, the holes all have a variety of tees that are designed to work with differing abilities. And finally, the courses were all designed to be difficult, as it was believed that easy courses would not be successful over the long haul.

Most Popular New Toyota Car Technology Options

New cars come with options that you never even thought of as possible just a few years ago. Heck, your average new Toyota now sports more wiring, computers, sensors and gizmos than airplanes used to have. But what do most people really pick? Well, after a little research, here’s what seems to top most people’s wish lists. Entertainment You could really go to town here. Since we all seems to carry a lot of our content with us, an MP3 interface and charging ports are big hits. For folks with kids, an in-car DVD system is just the ticket to keep the little ones entertained. For adults there is satellite radio, CD players and high powered amps and upgraded speakers keep things rocking. Communications Having a great built-in navigation system is a big deal for many people, especially those who travel by car a lot. Having the Bluetooth system for interfacing with a smart phone is also huge in that it improves both driver safety and ease of use, keeping both hands on the wheel, as they should be. Driving Aids This is where the sci-fi really starts to come into play. Parking assist systems now help folks fit into tight spaces or actually do the job automatically. Intelligent cruise control uses radar technology to not just monitor speed but the actual distance between your car and the one ahead of it. And even the humble headlight has been updated with Xenon bulbs, LEDs and better halogens. Just imagine what will be available in another few years.
