The Only U.S. Postal Service Water Route At the headwaters of the Magnolia River in southern Alabama, you'll find the town of Magnolia Springs. Because the town relies heavily on the river for recreation and transportation, many homes are right on the river, resulting in the need for mailboxes along the banks. At least the mailman doesn't have to deal with dogs. 3. The Iron Bowl Even if you aren't a college football fan, seeing the annual Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn is always a spectacle. From the spectacular pre-game tailgate to the post-game party, these diehard fans are sure to show you a good time. This is by no means an exhaustive list of Alabama's unique attractions. Lookout Mountain The Lookout Mountain Parkway is a must-see in autumn. This 93-mile stretch of road between Gadsen, AL and Chattanooga passes through dynamic park land, which means amazing foliage and natural formations like canyons and waterfalls. 2. Coastal Connection Alabama's coastline on the Gulf of Mexico is just as lovely as the nation's more iconic ocean coasts, plus it has some unique Southern charm. The Coastal Connection Scenic Byway runs the length of the Gulf Coast, dotted with small towns and quiet beaches along nature preserves. 3. The Selma to Montgomery March Byway In 1965, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led his historic march from Selma to the capital city of Montgomery.
